It's All About Family!

Good Morning Everyone,

I'm taking a few moments this beautiful Sunday morning to write about my family reunion which took place yesterday. This was a "cousins" reunion in that it was geared towards all of us "first cousins" - descendants of Fred & Blanche's kids - Eddy, Hazel, Lois, Vern, Delores, and Junior.

It has been years since we've all gotten together - the last time being 2004 (and even then we weren't all together). Yesterday we had 18 out of 19 - missing David from the Miedema clan. Otherwise we were all there. Particularly wonderful was the fact that the California cousins were here....ALL three of them at the same time!!! I haven't seen my cousin Keith since 1971. I cannot remember the last time I saw his sister Debbie. Truthfully, I couldn't remember even meeting her- as I was pretty small the last time she came to ND.

This is a picture of me and Valerie. My cousin Valerie is still so very beautiful, both inside and out.

She is so wonderful! I enjoyed catching up with her and walking down memory lane. Her parents and her used to come to visit the farm every year, or every other year, and it was the hi-light of my summer when I could spend time with her. I was always in awe of her (she was so pretty then - and still is!). She used to put up with her "little" cousin tagging along behind her. I used to cry when they would leave. The last time she visited was in 1983 when she came back with her father. She said yesterday that was one of the last times that she and her father (Vern) got to spend time together before he passed away.

Here is Keith - he hasn't changed a day since the last time I saw him! He's still a nut and I love him dearly!

The whole day was absolutely wonderful! We had food, drink, conversation, laughter, tears and LOTS of pictures. I hope everyone's turns out. The important thing is that we were together and reminiscing on our lives, our history, heritage and the wonderful times we had growing up as "cousins."

I love each and every one of them and am grateful for the time we spent together. We're hoping to do this again in three years; I pray that we are all able to make that reunion.

I came away from yesterday with a sense of all of our parents standing up in heaven with proud smiles on their faces - a joy in their hearts of "look what we've created" and "we done good"!

We honor you, Grandpa Fred & Blanche, Dad (Eddy), Aunt Hazel, Aunt Lois, Uncle Vern (Beno), Aunt Delores (Nanny) and Uncle Junior. We love you and miss you - your spirit lives on through us - your children.
